Lead a Human Rights Education Workshop in your School or Community!

Human Rights & Justice | Jul 06, 2019 | Volunteer Event

Action for human rights is fueled by an understanding of human rights and the background it plays against. It is by this principle that Amnesty International Philippines seeks to create avenues to develop the public’s understanding of human rights issues and principles—an understanding that would encourage and enable individuals to take part and realize their own ideas on how to address the many challenges to human rights in the Philippines and around the world.

This is why we are looking for volunteers who would take the first step with us towards bringing a greater awareness of what it means to live with dignity in a world where everyone is treated equally and with respect! We hope you can help us coordinate with your chosen school and/or community to conduct UpRights: A Human Rights Education Workshop.

What is the UpRights Workshop?

UpRights is a 2-day intensive workshop that hopes not only to introduce what human rights is, but to develop an understanding of what human rights means—to us as individuals and the lives we live, to our friends and family, to our school, to the community we live in, and to the national and global societies we share with others.

Through participatory sessions and activities building on the participants’ own experiences, the workshop aims to build a human rights advocacy in the young people participating; empowering them to take what they’ll learn and turn it into a first step towards fulfilling their responsibility as human beings to promote and protect human rights in their school and/ or community.

What will I do as a Volunteer?

You will be our Human Rights Champion in your school/community. You will lead the coordination with your school administration / local barangay and help us in the logistical processes and preparations for UpRights. You'll also be trained as an assistant facilitator for UpRights!

Do I need to attend trainings and orientations?

Yes! Below are the dates you have to keep in mind:

  • 06 July: Orientation to Amnesty International Philippines and to the Project
  • July to September: Coordination and Preparations, Implementation of the UpRights Workshop in your school/community

Do I need to bring anything? Are there any requirements?

No need to bring anything and no requirements too! All we need is your passion for human rights, your energy and patience for coordination and training, and your enthusiasm to work on this project and for human rights!!
