LA LIGA MARIQUINA INC. abbreviated as “LM” was inspired by “LA LIGA FILIPINA” founded by Dr. Jose Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda, on 03 July 1892 at the House of Doroteo Ongjunco at Ilaya Street Tondo Manila. Its aims were formatted according to the original aims of then La Liga, designed on a principle “Walang nakakataas kundi ang Maykapal lamang, walang personal na interes kundi ang bayan lamang, at walang posisyon o katungkulan kundi ang responsibilidad na maging mabuting halimbawa.” Through this, LM decided “DIYOS, BAYAN AT MAMAMAYAN” to be its official motto. A community based organization, LM was founded by a number of people (mostly women) who desire to give back to the community, to step up to be a catalyst for change, to revive the spirit of “bayanihan” and to set as an example. They believe that even if you have nothing or come from nothing, you have a chance to be part of a working idea that “We can and we will.”
