GROUP HOME BACKGROUND:
Group Home is a community-based residential care facility for abandoned and indigent older women located in San Jose, Del Monte, Bulacan. Currently, it houses 10 older women with four (4) regular volunteers. Since its establishment, Group Home has been dependent to the generous support of some donors for its operation and maintenance.
The concept of COSE Group Home is based on the idea of “aging in one’s place”, where abandoned and homeless older people continue to be part of the community where they can still interact and contribute. COSE believes that older persons can share their experiences and wisdom to others; thus it encourages residents to get involved and participate in the community. Residents may attend and participate in activities initiated by various entities such as the barangay, homeowners association, churches, older person organizations, etc. To encourage freedom and independent-living, Group Home residents do their own activities of daily living (such as eating, walking, bathing, grooming, etc.) and were assigned household chores.

COSE believes that it is important for older persons to remain in the community to share their experiences and wisdom, and to teach us all about our own aging.
Continuous operation of Group Home and the provision of basic needs will uphold the dignity of the residents and will promote their rights as an older person. Integration of the Home in the community encourages the participation of Group Home residents in community-building. Support to the Home will contribute to the upliftment of the lives of 10 abandoned older women.
