Fairplay runs a drop-in centre which allows us to formally assess the situation of the children and their families. This helps us provide individual support for the kids, helping to identify who benefits most from an education sponsorship, who really needs full-time residential care, and who needs support in livelihood projects. This is the base of our social work. The drop-in centre acts as a halfway house for many children. For some it's the necessary step before they can competently go back to full-time education, for others it's the next step in finding a loving home. Fairplay is currently expanding its education programs. We aim to provide full-time education for children working as scavengers and other kids who couldn’t afford to go to school. We also aim at harnessing social and emotional skills of our kids so they can be compassionate individuals in their community. This will be made possible in a democratic setting where kids will have the freedom and control over their learning. Locally, schools typically have 60-80 kids in a classroom, outdated materials, and over-worked teachers. FFA aims at providing a happier, more effective learning environment that will show how much can be achieved with alternative education.
