DYESABEL Founding Anniversary: Museakahan Concert-for-a-cause

Arts & Culture, Environment & Sustainability, Indigenous Peoples, Livelihood & Employment, Volunteerism | Jun 01, 2023 | Volunteer Event

Sama-Bajaus are sea nomads and indigenous groups who struggle to fight discrimination and stereotypes against their identity, culture, and tradition. Most of the people know Bajaus based on their current negative and disadvantaged situation due to forces that take their identities away from them. However, DYESABEL begs to ask the question, does everybody know that this indigenous community has their own culture-based music, fabrics, dances, and especially  livelihoods like fishing, pearl vending, and weaving instead of street peddling and begging? Hence, through Museakahan, we want to train Sama-Bajau youth to proudly present who and what they are as an indigenous community to the Mindanawons and Filipinos.

Museakahan 2023 is rooted in Dyesabel Philippines' unwavering commitment to support the Bajau community in Davao City. As an organization that has always been dedicated to providing a platform for the youth and Bajau communities to participate in environmental conservation efforts, Dyesabel Philippines recognizes the importance of preserving and celebrating the rich cultural traditions of the Bajau.

With Museakahan 2023, Dyesabel Philippines aims to raise funds to support the Bajau community's Covid-19 recovery plan, focusing on education, livelihood, and health. This concert for a cause hopes to raise P 100,000.00 to support modular learning programs for Bajau children, seed funding for sustainable livelihood projects, and health support for community members.

The concert, scheduled for June 10, 2023, is expected to be an unforgettable event that showcases the vibrant culture of the Bajau community. It will feature a diverse range of performances, including traditional Bajau music and dance, spoken word poetry, and contemporary music from local Dabawenyo artists.

Through events like Museakahan 2023, Dyesabel Philippines continues to make a positive impact on the lives of the Bajau community in Davao City. By supporting education, livelihood, and health initiatives, the organization is helping to create a brighter future for this culturally-rich community.Projects like the Museakahan 2023 is firmly grounded in the goal of empowering and uplifting the Bajau community, while also preserving and celebrating their unique cultural heritage.
