About the Project

The BINHI Buddy Project is a one-on-one personalized tutoring method of learning where BINHI Scholars will be coached by a volunteer to help them overcome reading challenges. The project responds to the needs of the scholar by focusing on the reading skill where there is a difficulty. It aims to prepare the scholar for independent learning.

The project will be implemented online using available free online platforms such as Google apps and Facebook.

Qualifications and Requirements

Before becoming a BINHI Buddy, one must pass the following criteria:

• must be able to speak both English and Filipino
• must be at least a college-level student
• an advocate of literacy and independent learning
• with keen observation skills
• willing to commit at least 60 minutes of his/her time every week for 6 weeks (total time: 360 minutes)
• must have a gadget and access to a stable internet connection
• must be knowledgeable of basic apps used for online classes (Facebook, Google Meet, etc.)

Timeline of Activities

• July 1-21: Registration period for volunteers and parents
• July 22, 1:00 PM: Virtual Volunteer Orientation via Zoom*
• July 22-28: Introduction to your BINHI Buddy; Pre-testing of BINHI Buddies
• July 29-August 4: Start dates of the BINHI Buddy tutorial
• August 17, 5:00 PM: 1st Regrouping Meeting via Zoom*
• September 2-8: End dates of the BINHI Buddy tutorial
• September 9-15: Post-testing of BINHI Buddies
• September 15, 5:00 PM: BINHI Buddy Wrap-up/Debriefing via Zoom*

*Expect to receive an email at least 3 days prior to the orientation date for the Zoom details.
