LA LIGA MARIQUINA INC. abbreviated as “LM” was inspired by “LA LIGA FILIPINA” Founded by Dr. Jose Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonzo Realonda, on 03 July 1892 at the House of Doroteo Ongjunco at Ilaya Street Tondo Manila. It’s aims was formatted according to the original aims of then La Liga, designed on a principle “walang nakakataas kundi ang may kapal lamang, walang personal na interes kundi ang bayan lamang, at walang posisyon o katungkulan kundi ang responsibilidad na maging mabuting halimbawa”, through this, LM decided to be its official motto “DIYOS, BAYAN AT MAMAYAN”. A Community Based Organization, LM was originally started by a number of people (mostly women) who desires to give back to the community and step up to be a catalyst for change, to revive the spirit of “Bayanihan” and to be an example that even you have nothing or coming from nothing you have a chance to be part of a working idea that “we can and we will”.
